Submission Spotlight

Yank Tug Yank

Maureen Zent

Maureen Zent is an indie animator from Atlanta, GA. Her stop-motion film Yank Tug Yank was submitted to the 2018 Florida Animation Festival.

FAF: Why stop-motion?

MZ: I was the kid who had to be dragged away from the dioramas on school trips. Stop-motion allows me to bring tiny worlds to life. It's megalomania in miniature. Having tactile characters makes stop-motion a performance art. The challenge is to coax molded silicone and wire to convey emotion.

FAF: What motivated your design?

MZ: Yank Tug Yank is an allegory about power and influence. Beyond making the characters bend and move believably, they needed to be archetypes.
