2020 VIRTUAL PROGRAM BOOK

Welcome!

We're excited to have you. Due to COVID-19, things are going to be a little different for our fifth year of the Florida Animation Festival... It will be completely virtual and available to stream for just $2 per program! Though we wish we could show you these great films in person, an online format has allowed us to show even more animated films than ever before. 

Below you'll find each section of films involved in this year's festival with descriptions and further info. All films will be available for streaming only from June 11-14.

What do music videos and comedies have in common? They're all about timing! This special curated block of unique content showcases comedies, dark comedies, music videos, and videos edited to music across all styles of animation.  

 

The comedy and music video category has a suggested rating of up to PG-13.

Featured: A still from "Pink Youth." In the future... The powers-that-be discovered a way to capture all the color and hope from the world... Or so they thought...

We are proud to feature short animated films from extremely talented student creatives. At FAF we showcase films ranging from students at our neighboring Florida State University to students all around the world!

This block has mixed ratings up to PG-13.

Featured: A still from "Adam (With An Eye)." Adam has embarked on an interstellar exploration, while his partner’s life continues on Earth. With the time and space between them, the lovers struggle to stay in touch, until one day she discovered something that Adam has secretly left behind.

We're excited to feature films from incredibly talented southeast-sourced animators, including a number of amazing student submissions from alma maters right here in Florida!

Featured: A still from "Labyrinth." In this non-linear narrative short, a boy gets forever trapped in a midnight labyrinth, in which the memories of his life unfold one by one.

Featured: A still from "A Flowering Tree." Based on a Kannada folktale translated by AK Ramanujan, “A Flowering Tree” is about Vanaja, a young woman who can magically turn into a flowering tree at will.

This showcase of films contains no dialogue or words of any kind, giving us a different perspective on cinematic storytelling.

Featured: A still from "Moon Melody." Nikolas' world becomes cold and dark after he sees the Moon chase the Sun into the horizon. He sets off to find the Sun and Moon and goes on an emotional journey, discovering warmth in unusual places and facing despair for the first time.

Since their invention, films have acted as both an agent and reflection of social change. In this category, we highlight these passionate filmmakers who want to change the world for the better. All these animated shorts have something to say that involves something greater than ourselves, so let's listen!

Featured: A still from "Urban Sphinx." An animated short film that creatively documents the presence of street art at various neighbourhoods of Valencia, Spain, between 2018 and 2019.

Who says you are too young to make a movie? In this category, we feature talented young animated filmmakers under the age of 17. Here's to supporting and listening to the smart and creative voices of the youth!
